End of an Era

Yesterday was my last day as a Detective.  I'm not retiring, just changing assignments. So what assignment is better than being a Detective?  Flying in police helicopters full-time!  It's like G.I. Joe Summer Camp...everyday!

Leaving Detective work is bittersweet though.  I've held the title of "Detective" for the last seventeen years, so I have literally been a Detective for a life-time.  I've been able to do things I never thought a "local cop" would get a chance to do.  But the flip side of that coin is seeing and experiencing things that most people should never have to.  I am happy to say that I've enjoyed my time as a Detective and hold zero regrets.  My new assignment brings healthier things.  I have ditched the long hours and the stress of a never ending caseload.

I am excited to say that I will finally be able to devote the time this blog deserves.  When I started this blog, I had the best of intentions for keeping up with the writing.  But as a Detective, half of your workday is spent writing.  When those work days drag on, it's hard to find the time and motivation.  This new assignment has changed all that.  I am committing to a weekly editorial schedule for this blog.

I do still have a course in the works, but I am starting over and creating the course from scratch.  The parts I'd previously created amounted to a less-than-useful police encyclopedia that didn't match my intentions for you, the writer.  The course I am developing now will be much more focused on applying the "cop knowledge" to specific writing pains.

I still have a long way to go on the course.  So in the meantime I will be focusing on pumping out blog posts that I hope you will find useful in your writing.

I just finished up bantering with the Sterling and Stone crew on the Self-Publishing Podcast and had an absolute blast!  I want to extend a HUGE thank you to Christine for making it happen and to Dave, Amy, Sean, and Johnny for hosting me.  I will post a link to the podcast here once it's available.

Thanks for sticking with me.  I have a lot of useful blog posts planned!

Write well,

 -Adam
